Here’s a another reason to kill your television: when over-the-air TV signals go digital in February 2009 consumers with old-fashioned televisions will need to buy converter boxes that will consume up to 3 billion kilowatt/hours of electricity a year, according to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report. Digital-to-analog converter boxes will be a must-have if you want your Sony (SNE), Sharp or any other pre-digital set to work. The EPA wants consumer electronics manufacturers like LG (LGL) and Motorola (MOT) to build energy-efficient boxes, and today announced Energy Star specifications that the agency said would cut the devices’ electricity use by 70 percent. If all converter boxes meet the Energy Star standards, Americans could save more than "$1 billion in energy costs, and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 1 million cars," the EPA said. The converters are expected to hit the market in late 2008.
I think this is the biggest bunch of BS related to the Global warming as it gets, What about that town in China hat the people who live there cannot even breath because of the polution coming out of their industrial smoke stacks that was on tv last week. Get the Car manufactures to acually use the technology they have and make a less co2 emiting vehicle. If we don’t fix this problem The Automobile profits wont mean anything with the world overheating, food sources lost and the food chain up and down being affected. It wont matter how much money you have unless we all live in glass bubbles. Like the Biosphere in Tucson. Boy that would be fun.
I want to know the truth about global warming, CO2 emmissions make up the least percentage in effecting are global tempature, I believe its less then a half of a percent, and man made emissions makes up a third of that half of a percent, so if my calculations are right we, being the people are only effecting the degree of tempature by 2/10’s of a degree. Either someone tell me my sources are wrong with accurate information, and then tell me how much CO2 emissions make up the tempature for Earth, or I will believe this is a natural occurence that we cant stop.
thomas, its impossible to tell you that your sources are correct when you don’t give any. And yes, a quick search on wikipedia for global warming would immediately tell you that you and your sources are wrong.
wikipedia?? You mean where you edit text on your own and become an instant self-proclaimed expert?
I don’t think so…
