To the genius that says the leaf wins:

With volt, I can plug it into any wall outlet. With the leaf, they come install a charger at your house. Where will you charge away from home?

Get a clue, stop living on past japanese accomplishments, the volt is getting the awards, and I guarantee the leaf sells less than half the volt within two years. Oh, and the higher price tag is for a totally loaded, attractive car. Not a box sure to be sitting on the side of the road when you realize you underestimated the range at higher speeds.

Driving a car shouldn't be a math test.

Ok, hate to break the news to you- but the Volt versus Leaf 'war' is not really a war. The Leaf simply wins.

Why?

The Leaf gets the equivilant of 99mpg in its 100 miles range. The Volts gets the equivilant of 97mpg in its 40 miles range.

After 40 miles, the Volt only gets 37mpg from the 40 mile mark to the 100 miles mark of the Leaf.

At the 100 mile mark, the Volt's gas driven mpg drops the total mpg down to 49mpg for the 100 mile trip. It drops to 42 for a 200 mile trip and 40 for a 300 mile trip

The Prius get 50mpg everywhere, all the time.

So the Volt if neither a good electric car or a good hybrid. It will only fit a very very niche market of people. Either you commute far enough to where a Prius is better, or you take few enough trips that renting a vehicle is more cost efficient and eco friendly (especially since you can rent a Prius easy nowadays).

California can't pay for the electricity it uses currently. How can increased demand be met unless you go completely communistic and then if you do why would anyone need to travel farther than the collective offices for scraps of food.

It's Thanksgiving and it should be remembered the first party was to celebrate 90% of the people not starving because the colony adopted self determination and rejected communism.

While I am excited about the Leaf, the highway battery range makes it non-workable for me, as the battery range drops like a rock as speed increases. At 55 mph (too slow for LA), it is 70 miles. At 70 mph, it drops to only 43 miles, not much better than the Volt. With the Volt, the engine will start up to keep me going. With the Leaf, you need to start looking for a fast charging station, and be prepared to stay there for 30 minutes. Even then, you only get 80% of the original range, or 34 miles. Regular charging at 110 or even 240 volts is so slow to not even be an option.

Well the volt does burn carbon however i burns less than getting your leaf towed home because it cant make the trip. Mabye Nissan should include a lone extension cord or invent a electric tow truck.
